Coaching Strategies
Life changes dramatically in an instant for a brain injury survivor. It’s not only about dealing with the physical symptoms, but also how to cope with work, social, family and life situations, as well as many other losses.
When recovering from a brain injury, or concussion, one’s energy, ability to focus, process information, and manage emotions are compromised The injured brain functions more like a backup battery, only holding a charge for short periods of time. Survivors often feel chronically fatigued, unable to perform regular daily living roles, or tasks. Having an advocate with a voice, who understands the system and the emotional journey, enables the survivor to focus on managing their recovery and well-being.
Caregivers have an external resource, one who is able to offer much needed education, information, symptom awareness, community resources, professional guidance and emotional support, so that they also feel competent, equipped and empowered, to provide appropriate care support to their loved one.
Sunflower Transitions has programs to help support you through this often overwhelming transition, while you learn to live with the new normal. Recovery is not just about the physical injury. It is also very much about treating the "invisible" mental, emotional, cognitive, behavioral trauma that occurs during brain injury. We provide a process to work through these often debilitating, life altering traumas. All programs are designed with the understanding that brain injury survivors have short focus, attention, visual and spatial problems with prolonged use of technology.
